Why you should visit your chiropractor during the Christmas holidays.

1. Travel

The holiday season is a very busy time for most people. You might be travelling by train, car or plane to see family or go on holiday. All kinds of travelling can cause mental and physical stress on our bodies. Sitting for extended periods of time is bad for your body. It can cause your muscles to tighten and your body to feel stiff. Lifting heavy suitcases is difficult and if you use your back to bare the load instead of your legs it can cause lower back pain. If you are staying with friends or family you might be sleeping on an air mattress or sofa, this can put a "kink" in your neck or put your spine out of alignment. The chiropractor can help relieve you of pain and get you back to your optimum healthy state.

2. Weather

Snow or ice on the ground can be hazardous, it can cause you to slip and fall or often cause car accidents if the roads have not been treated. Pain does not always develop immediately, it can appear hours or days later. If you experience one of these unfortunate events it is important to be checked by a chiropractor straight away

3. Stress

It’s great spending time with your family during the holidays but it can be stressful. Coordinating schedules and seeing different family and friends in different places or hosting in your own home can all be very difficult. Mental stress can cause your body to react with headaches, insomnia and tense muscles. Seeing your chiropractor is a great way to relieve the stress pent up in your body and get your mind and body healthy again.

4. Digestive Problems

We tend to go over board in the holiday season with heavy meals, sugary snacks, and lots of alcohol. With all the festive food and drinks we tend to forget about fruit and vegetables, which makes our digestive system slow down even more. Chiropractic helps to maintain proper digestion; correcting misalignments in your spine helps allow the nerves to properly get to your digestive tract and keeps it functioning properly.

5. Immune System

It’s common to get sick as the weather gets colder but if you have a good immune system it is easier for your body to fight off any illness. Chiropractic adjustments have been shown to improve the response of the nervous and immune systems by reducing the physical stress on the neuronal control. The autonomic nervous system connects the spleen, lymph nodes, thymus and bone marrow that produce the body’s immune response. The nervous and immune systems work together to build the best response to adapt and heal accordingly.
